Course Summary

The ISSA Boat Master Course is an ideal introduction for anyone looking to develop the skills and confidence to safely operate a small powerboat. Designed for students with little or no previous powerboating experience, this five-day programme combines practical boat handling with essential nautical knowledge to prepare you for taking charge of a small vessel in sheltered coastal waters.

Throughout the course, you’ll learn safe boat handling, navigation, passage planning, collision regulations, meteorology, anchoring and essential seamanship, together with the ISSA VHF Radio syllabus. Training is delivered by experienced ISSA instructors using a combination of practical exercises and classroom-based learning in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Successful students are awarded the internationally recognised ISSA Boat Master Certificate. After gaining further practical boating experience (approximately 600 nautical miles or one season of regular boating), you’ll be eligible to progress to the ISSA Inshore Motor Yacht Skipper Course, taking the next step in your powerboating journey.

There is a  handbook that is available to students for elements to this course.  These can be purchased at the shop individually or in the near future as a compendium edition.
