Our Discover Sailing Course is designed specifically for complete beginners and anyone who has always wanted to experience sailing before committing to a longer training programme.

During this enjoyable one-day experience you'll discover the basic principles of sailing, learn how a yacht is controlled using the wind and spend plenty of time at the helm under the guidance of one of our experienced instructors.

You'll quickly gain an appreciation of how sails provide the yacht's power, why wind direction is so important and how simple manoeuvres allow a sailing yacht to travel almost anywhere.

Whether you're looking for an exciting day on the water, considering sailing as a new hobby or thinking about progressing to internationally recognised ISSA qualifications, Discover Sailing provides the perfect first step.

Frequently Asked Questions about Sailing Courses

No. This course is designed specifically for complete beginners with no previous sailing experience.

Yes. Under the guidance of your instructor you'll spend time at the helm learning the basics of steering a sailing yacht.

We recommend comfortable clothing suitable for the weather, light deck shoes (or non-marking footwear), sunglasses, sunblock and a waterproof bag for personal belongings.

The course is suitable for adults and older children with an interest in sailing. Please contact us before booking if you wish to bring younger participants.

Safety always comes first. If weather conditions are unsuitable for sailing, we'll discuss alternative arrangements or reschedule your training where necessary.

Many sailors continue with our Learn to Sail, Zero to Hero or ISSA Yacht Crew courses to develop their skills and begin working towards internationally recognised sailing qualifications.

Courses operate from two dedicated Sail in Asia locations. Cape Panwa offers direct access to Phuket's southern islands and longer cruising routes, while Mai Khao provides convenient access from Phuket Airport and a relaxed training environment. Compare Cape Panwa and Mai Khao training bases →
