Course Summary

The ISSA Keelboat Skipper Course is a practical two-day advanced course for experienced keelboat sailors ready to take responsibility for a boat and crew. Building on the skills developed through Keelboat Crew and Navigator training, the course develops confident boat handling, seamanship, navigation and crew management.

During the course you’ll develop your ability to skipper a keelboat safely in daylight and light to moderate conditions. Training includes advanced sail handling, reefing, heaving-to, anchoring, man overboard recovery, passage planning, weather, navigation and managing a crew effectively.

Candidates should already be confident keelboat sailors with at least 100 hours of previous keelboat experience and a good working knowledge of the skills covered by the ISSA Keelboat Crew and Keelboat Navigator Courses, or equivalent experience.

Successful candidates who demonstrate the required practical skills, knowledge and judgement will receive the ISSA Keelboat Skipper qualification.

 

There is a  handbook that is available to students for elements to this course.  These can be purchased at the shop individually or in the near future as a compendium edition.
