Course Summary

The ISSA VHF Radio Course is a one-day practical and theory programme designed to give recreational sailors the confidence to operate a marine VHF radio safely and correctly. Students learn standard radio procedures, routine communications and the internationally recognised protocols used during emergency situations at sea.

Training covers Digital Selective Calling (DSC), Channel 16 procedures, GMDSS, Mayday, Pan Pan and Safety calls, radio etiquette and Search & Rescue communications. Practical exercises ensure students become familiar with the operation of modern fixed and handheld marine VHF radios.

On successful completion, students are awarded the ISSA VHF Radio Operator Certificate, an essential qualification for progressing to ISSA Inshore Skipper, Offshore Skipper and Master of Yachts courses, while providing valuable skills for anyone operating or crewing a yacht.

 

There is a  handbook that is available to students for elements to this course.  These can be purchased at the shop individually or in the near future as a compendium edition.
